Now starting their ninth year in operation, PSSR has held more events and trained more riders than any other motorcycle track group in the region. Their experienced instructor crew focuses heavily on riders that are new to the track environment. "Over the years, we've learned how to minimize the anxiety many riders face when riding on the track for the first time. Newer riders receive considerable classroom time in addition to on-the-track instruction. The newest riders begin the day by following instructors and learning proper lines, gradually picking up the pace before they're given the opportunity to experience the kind of speeds that only a big track like PIR can safely provide," says PSSR partner Dan Batz. Riders are divided into three groups according to speed and experience. "Many of our riders bring out their pride-and-joy street bikes with minimal preparation, and they keep them in pristine condition for many years of track fun, providing they don't let their ambitions exceed their skill levels. Most riders no longer have the desire for riding at excessive/unsafe speeds on the street once they've had some track time," according to Batz. Portland International Raceway: Request for Expressions of Interest Businesses Non-profit organizations, and individuals are invited to form public-private agreements to carry out revenue-generating and capital-related activities supporting Portland International Raceway's goal to provide a "World Class Racetrack." The intrinsic value of what PIR offers potential partners is greatly enhanced by the large numbers of visitors it attracts that have an affinity for motor sports, cycling, and related recreational activities. PIR holds approximately 650 events per year and attracts over 400,000 visitors annually. This Request for Expressions of Interest creates a competitive environment to establish new agreements for these projects. In order to be considered in the upcoming review process, PIR has prioritized the following projects: a recreational vehicle park, an indoor kart center, commercial space for racing-oriented businesses and garages and/or garage suites for weekend race enthusiasts. Other capital improvements or services that enhance the visitor experience will also be considered. For more information, please visit: here. Thanks to Friends of PIR The Frie nds of PIR, an Oregon non-profit corporation, spent Sunday doing PIR clean-up event. Nearly 60 people came to walk the grounds helping us get ready for the start of the new season. The Friends of PIR has been formed in order to bring together under one umbrella all of the individuals, groups and businesses who enjoy a connection to PIR. Together, we can take the lead, focus our efforts on the preservation and enhancement of PIR, and ensure that it will remain a central feature of our community for years to come.
